Hi, my name is Michael Whalley, aka MrElvishPiper. I am a terrible gambler and an even worse investor. Here's my story of how I came to own 250 Daniel Theis playoff moments and how some foolish decisions turned into one of the most memorable experiences of my life.
NBA Top Shot has been a hobby of mine for more than two years now. My favorite part about it is the Captain's programs and leaderboards. I live near Boston, so naturally, I am a huge Celtics fan. One day, most likely after a few hazy double IPAs, I started stacking Daniel Theis Playoff moments. My logic? There are only 8,250 of them in existence, and who wouldn't want to be a part of the TSDGarden and Celtics history? I told my friends who bought a few Theis moments, shouted it out in the discord, and it took off. Another collector, Larry Legendary, and I started buying and buying. The TSGarden Captains noticed the "Theis Stacking" and created a contest. For every locked Daniel Theis Playoff moment in your collection, you enter a raffle to win two luxury suite tickets to opening night against the Philadelphia 76ers. By the time the contest closed, I had accumulated over 100 Theis moments. When the wheel was spun, and my name came up (I think I had about 25% of the submissions), I went wild. Jumping around and screaming and disrupting my wife's conference call.
The game was incredible. The suite tickets enabled us to enter the Garden an hour before the general public. We watched pregame warmups courtside. Most of our group got a photo with Grant Williams after one of our members yelled out that he owned his Top Shot debut moment. Then, we watched the game from our suite as the Celtics held an incredibly powerful tribute to the late great Bill Russell.
Now I continue to buy a Daniel Theis Playoff moment for every win the Celtics have this year. It's a special moment from a special night—all thanks to NBA Top Shot.
Can't stop wont stop!
